Now that summer is officially behind us, many gardeners are prepping their plants for the winter. If you’re someone with a green thumb, you know that it can be kind of a morose process; you spend the whole summer putting so much love — not to mention lovingly homemade plant food — into your garden, only to lose it for 4 to 6 months of the year.
Fortunately, it might be time for your garden to settle in for a long winter’s nap, but the arrival of autumn doesn’t necessarily mean it’s time to shelve those plant skills.
Instead, just transfer all of your gardening energy into a smaller, indoor project: potted plants!
While leaves and, eventually, snow fall outside, it’s nice to have plenty of green things inside, flourishing and growing and keeping new life going even in the coldest months.
So this might be the perfect time of year to stock up on new potting soil, clean out the old terra cotta, and prepare for your cold-weather garden with a few simple hacks to keep your potted plants happy year-round!
From adding an absorbent sponge to help avoid over-and-underwatering, to employing a coffee filter in the bottom of your planter, we have a whole bunch of easy ways to keep your indoor plants happy.
